Finding the Board You Want, Keeping the Board You Need

Jeff LaValley
Principal & Creative Director, Flourish Consulting

About the Topic:
Building the perfect board is never easy. Finding the Board you want is perhaps the most important thing to consider when establishing a nonprofit. Keeping the board you need? That’s entirely another question. How do you identify the good candidates while weeding out those whose skillset may not match the needs of the organization? How do you keep the pipeline of volunteers filled to ensure the future of the organization? Is there ever a time to “fire” a Board Member? How do you transition “seat holders?” How you answer these questions could determine the current and future health of your organization.
